Fun With Cancer Patients

Join Fierce tomorrow (6-9pm Thursday 12 September) at the opening of Fun With Cancer Patients at mac birmingham.

Artist Brian Lobel has drawn on his own experience of cancer treatment as a young adult to help carry out a series of ‘actions’ with Birmingham teenage cancer patients. These have been self-initiated and designed to be of value to the teenagers themselves in processing their experience of cancer. They took place following a series of workshops over the summer.

The exhibition presents the documentation of these activities, alongside reflections from medical professionals.

The exhibition opening has been organised by the teenage patients that participated in the project and will include a mocktail from food-designers Blanch & Shock and a Cancer Disco with a playlist chosen by the teenagers.

There is also a further event taking place next week as part of the exhibition:

We Have to Talk About Cancer

6:30-8pm, Thursday 19 September. mac birmingham

In this interactive workshop and presentation, six young adults with cancer will facilitate community discussion about ‘the cancer story’ – theirs, yours, ours.  Come prepared to talk, to listen, and reflect on this illness that used to be discussed in hushed tones, that is now discussed all the time, and that is still a complete mystery.

This workshop is free to attend. Please go to the mac sales and info desk on 6.30pm on the day. Suitable for 16 +
