I’m currently working and living in London after being born, as many of us are, and growing up in Birmingham. My work utilises the persona of the queer other, using drag to create a monstrous, defiant witch: Rodent DeCay. Drag, cabaret, and club performance is where my work began, performing with Oozing Gloop’s Yeast London Cabaret and independently for the past three years. I use the othering technology of drag to create a totemic persona for the queer outsider, revelling and celebrating in difference. My work tends to focus on negative emotion, allegorising experiences of dread, anxiety and self-destruction through material drawn from Gothic literature and the mythic, occult cannon.
Revenant // Return
I’m interested in exploring the conditions of queer adolescence, time spent in the static, paralysing isolation of urban and suburban spaces as the monster that comes back. Prowling the parameters, the invading, returning outsider. This is an exercise is sound and fury, a reach towards a ritual communion of weaponised loneliness.
