Jóhann Kristófer Stefánsson aka The Iceman aka Joey Christ is a theatre maker, professional model and rockstar from Iceland. His main interests are rap music, falling asleep in the theatre and shopping. If you would travel to Iceland you might catch him tearing up the club with his band Sturla Atlas, or seeing a Bollywood movie with Bjork at the local independent cinema. Christ gets his inspiration from artists such as Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Kanye West; I just like the energy. I think everybody should aspire to achieve they’re maximum potential and for me these artists are constantly striving for that. And on top of that I just like the rags to riches story, to have to work your way from the bottom to the top.
Despite being only 23 years old, Christ is a recovering alcoholic, after giving up drinking while still in the womb. That hasn’t affected his career and Christ has a very strong presence in Iceland’s nightlife, where he and his crew are prominent figures.
Christ is starting his last year in Theatre & Performance making in Iceland’s Academy of the Arts and says his main focus in the art is to have fun; I just want to have fun, it should be fun making it as well as performing it, but that being said I don’t think it should just be trivial, I am critical of my surroundings and what’s going on my society plays a big part in what I choose to research. When asked about his music carer Christ he says that Sturla Atlas is a hip hop/r’n’b project that fills a void in Icelandic culture; The younger generation thrives on rap and we were simply answering their call. Our subject is our lives, the love in our lives and the city we grew up in.
Johann aka The Iceman will be working with Fierce Festival on our 2015 program and we couldn’t be more excited… or more entertained.
