The Future of Fierce: an Update from the Trustees
After six years in post as Joint Artistic Directors of Fierce; Laura McDermott and Harun Morrison will step down after delivering their fifth edition of Fierce Festival (7 – 11 October 2015).
Since their appointment in November 2009, the duo have curated and produced four critically acclaimed festivals, remodelled and launched Fierce’s artist development scheme ‘Fierce FWD’ and secured Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation status, which will provide core funding for the company until 2017/18.
After 2015 the next festival edition will be in 2017 with a new artistic director . Across 2016 there will be a series of special projects and a new round of Fierce FWD.
In November 2015 Laura McDermott will take up the role of Creative Director at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, an interdisciplinary arts hub for the University of Sussex, and the wider national and international arts community.
In the New Year 2016 Harun Morrison will leave to focus on his art-making practice with They Are Here and independent curatorial projects.
The board wish Laura and Harun every success with their future paths.
An advert for the post of Artistic Director of Fierce Festival will be publicly circulated in September 2015, with January 2016 the proposed starting date for the appointed individual(s).
